Understanding WSIB first aid requirements is the first step to keeping your Ontario workplace safe. Under WSIB Regulation 1101, employers must provide first aid equipment and trained first aiders. They must also offer the right level of training for the size of the workplace.
Which course does your workplace need?
The level of training depends on how many employees you have:
- No more than 5 employees: Basic First Aid & CPR (Emergency First Aid) is usually the right choice.
- More than 5 employees: Intermediate First Aid & CPR (Standard First Aid) is usually the right choice.
Both options come in Level C and Level HCP (BLS). Healthcare staff usually take the HCP (BLS) version. Always check the current rules on the WSIB website. Requirements can depend on your industry.
Use a WSIB approved training provider
Only certificates from WSIB approved providers meet the rules. Pulse Savers is a training partner of Lifesaver101 Group. Lifesaver101 has been a WSIB approved provider in Ontario since 1999. That means every course and certificate you earn is approved across Ontario.
Online-only courses are not enough
A 100% online course is not an approved format. The WSIB approved format is blended. You complete the theory online. Then you finish the practical skills in person with an instructor.
Keep your team certified
A certificate is valid for 3 years. We recommend a refresh every year, so skills stay sharp. It helps to book your whole team together. Group and student discounts are available.
Next steps
Count your employees. Choose Basic or Intermediate. Then pick Level C or Level HCP (BLS) for your team. If you need help, call 647-667-8573.
