Choosing between CPR Level C vs Level HCP (BLS) comes down to who you are and where you work. Picking the right course is the first step toward getting you or your team certified. Both courses are WSIB approved. Both follow the same trusted CPR guidelines. They just suit different people.
What CPR Level C covers
CPR Level C is the standard course for workplace employees, parents, coaches and members of the public. It teaches you to spot and respond to a heart emergency or choking. You learn what to do for adults, children and infants. You also learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The program follows the ILCOR 2016 consensus guidelines for CPR.
What CPR Level HCP (BLS) adds
Level HCP (BLS) is made for people who work on a healthcare team. That includes nurses, paramedics, dentists, dental hygienists and pharmacists. It also suits students in health programs. It builds on Level C with advanced skills. You learn artificial respiration and how to use a bag valve mask (BVM). You also learn the jaw thrust for head and spinal injuries.
How to decide which course you need
- Choose Level C if you need CPR and AED skills for work, school, a sports team or home.
