How Blended First Aid Training Works: Online Theory Plus In-Class Practice

Published October 25, 2026

Blended first aid training lets you learn the theory at your own pace. Then you practise the hands-on skills with an instructor. It is the format Pulse Savers uses for every WSIB approved First Aid and CPR course. It also fits easily around a busy work week.

Step 1: Register

Call us or sign up for your chosen course online. Our team can help you pick between Basic, Intermediate and CPR-only options. The right choice depends on your workplace.

Step 2: Complete the online theory

You do the theory part online, at your own pace. There is no fixed class time for this step. When you finish, you get a temporary certificate. It is valid for 60 days.

Step 3: Attend the in-class session

Next you attend the hands-on session in person. An instructor guides you through the practical skills. You practise chest compressions, rescue breathing and AED use. You also learn how to manage bleeding. You get feedback in real time, so you know you are doing it right.

Step 4: Receive your certification

When both parts are complete, you receive your final certificate. Remember that an online-only course is not an approved format. A blended course with an in-person session is the WSIB approved option in Ontario.

Why choose blended training

  • You spend less time away from work, because the theory is online.
  • You practise on real equipment with expert feedback.
  • You earn a certificate from a WSIB approved training provider.
  • Groups can book together and ask about group and student discounts.

Who blended courses suit

Blended courses suit workplace teams, new employees, students and anyone who wants first aid skills. Healthcare staff can choose the HCP (BLS) options.

Quick summary

Blended training has two parts. First you learn online. Then you practise in class with an instructor. You get a temporary certificate after the online part. After the class, you get your final certificate. It is simple, flexible and WSIB approved.
